Chile v Argentina – Copa America Final 4 July 2015

Argentina returned to their finest form with a rampant 6-1 display over the Paraguay team who managed to sap their confidence by closing a 2-0 deficit to claim a draw in their 2015 Copa America opener. On this occasion, Leo Messi took a step back and laid on three goals for his teammates in a selfless display.

Meanwhile, Chile will play for their first-ever Copa America crown in front of their own fans. To win for the first time, and to do it as hosts, would be incredible, but it will be a tall order. Chile claimed their place in the 2015 Copa America final by defeating Peru 2-1 in a hotly contested affair.

Expectations

Chile appeared incredibly nervous, edgy even, in their 2-1 win over Peru. After a Gary Medel goal tied the game at 1-1, it was up to Eduardo Vargas to deliver a spectacular long-range goal to win the match. La Roja had also appeared nervy in their 1-0 quarter-final win against Uruguay. Playing in front of a home crowd appears to be increasing the pressure on Chile.

Argentina have also suffered from performance issues. La Albiceleste started their Copa America campaign with confidence when they carried a two-goal advantage into half-time. But then they lost it in the second half and have needed three games to regain their confidence.

Head coach Gerardo Martino’s Argentina side have maintained possession well and have defended better than expected. Martino was also rewarded with wisely continuing with his 4-3-3 formation that calls for Messi to play on the right side of the attack. Carlos Tevez was also smartly dropped to the bench in favour of Sergio Agüero, who is currently superior striker.

At present, Argentina are doing everything right and have delivered a frightening performance that their Chilean opponents will be struggling to digest. Chile have focused on playing tighter of late, but that does not come naturally to them, which should favour Argentina.

Match Tips

Tip one: Argentina to win Copa America @ 1.53
Tip two: Argentina to win either half @ 1.57

Winning in 90 minutes is a risk in modern football finals. Backing Argentina to win the trophy at 1.53 is safer.
