Chelsea v Southampton – Free Tips

Chelsea continue to languish in the bottom half of the Premier League, having earned only eight points to hold 15th place. Southampton, meanwhile, are in 10th place and only one point ahead. So, there is the chance for Chelsea to potentially climb back into the top half if they clam three points in the Saturday evening.

Of course, this is exactly what was expected of them in last Saturday’s evening game. Newcastle United have been struggling greatly, yet Chelsea appeared destined for defeat after falling two goals behind.

Fortunately, though, Ramires was able to get them back into the game with a long strike on 79 minutes, while Willian was able to deceive Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul with a whipped in free kick. The problem, however, is that Southampton are much more dangerous than Newcastle.

Expectations

Chelsea have won only two of their past six Premier League encounters with Southampton. Last season, in fact, both sides played out 1-1 draws in their league meetings. Staunch defensive play and cautious attacking tactics from José Mourinho contributed to those outcomes.

Mourinho is unlikely to make wholesale changes in attack, but again he needs to reconsider his defence. John Terry could make a return for youngster Kurt Zouma, who was partially at fault for Newcastle’s 42nd-minute goal from Ayoze Pérez. Branislav Ivanović was the second Chelsea defender at fault for the goal, and he has played woefully so far.

Swansea succeeded in limiting Southampton’s possession to just 41% on Saturday, but they were unable to prevent the Saints from comfortably winning the game 3-1. Ronald Koeman’s team were extremely efficient in creating seven shots on target from their low share of possession.

Match Tips

Tip one: Over 2.5 Goals @ 1.85
Tip two: Both Teams to Score @ 1.80

Chelsea are playing without Thibaut Courtois in goal and have a question marks throughout their defence. Combine these issues with Diego Costa’s current ban and you just cannot trust to back them for a win or draw. Focusing on goal-scoring bets could make it easier to find a winner on Saturday.
