The Spaniard is widely recognised for his organisational abilities and for setting up teams to counter opponents. The trouble with his current situation is that Newcastle desperately need wins, not just draws, and the fixture list has not many games left.
Also some pundits point that Benitez is unused to relegation scraps. But this can be over-played; if he can organise teams to win trophies, he can organise teams to survive.
In his first game in charge of Newcastle, at Leicester, there looked little between the sides; certainly not a margin reflecting the two sides’ league positions. And that was after only a few days in charge. Of course you have to factor in the new manager syndrome when players often raise their game to impress the new incumbent but there was still enough evidence to suggest they have a chance of staying in the Premier League.
Since then the derby draw and defeat at Norwich have not helped but Benitez could still pull off what would be a great escape.
