Anfield Tour

With the announcement of Liverpool’s new stadium, to be ready for 2010, why not take a tour round Anfield before it gets bulldozed!

There’s a range of different tours you can take but right at the top of the scale is this:

” Enjoy behind the scenes access and an exclusive training session with a Liverpool legend.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to live a day in the life of a former Liverpool Legend. The Legends welcome all customers as the day kicks off with a footballer’s breakfast. The package involves taking a nostalgic tour around Anfield with entrance to the museum – taking in the history of the club. The main feature involves a unique training session with the Legends & qualified coaches from LFC at The Academy. The day finishes off with lunch in the Trophy Room & an exclusive gift to take away.”

So why not take a tour of Anfield before it closes, I know I will be ANFIELD TOUR

Liverpool lose on penalties

Well Liverpool lost on penalties in the Asia Trophy to Portsmouth. they dominated the game but failed to score, sounds familiar!

But, more importantly I won my bet of 0-0 at 14.5 so that means winnings of £67.50 less the £5 on 3-1, so £62.50 up!

So, next games are against Shanghai Shenhua and Feyenoord in the Rotterdam Tournament which I expect Liverpool to win both so will be laying the draw in both games.

Asia Trophy Final

So Liverpool meet Portsmouth in the final of the Asia Trophy at 1.30pm GMT, Torres and Babel have been given international clearance so should make an appearance at some point.

On Betfair Liverpool are at 1.6 and Portsmouth at 7’s, the draw is at 4.1 so I don’t think i’ll have a big bet on this one, I can see it being low scoring to be honest, 0-0 looks good for a trade at 14.5, as does 3-1 Liverpool at 15.

So that’s what i’ll do, £5 on each of those correct scores with the intention of trading.

The New Anfield

THIS is the £300m football stadium Liverpool Football Club expect to playing in from August 2010.

The football club has submitted new plans for a stadium they hope to build on Stanley Park over the next three years.

Made largely of glass and steel, it will be able to seat 76,000 – 18,000 of who will be in an 18,000-seater Kop – if planning councillors approve

The new single-tier Anfield Kop, complete with specially designed roof, will be steeply raked and its seats tightly packed, retaining the world famous Anfield atmosphere.

Inside the New Anfield, towards the Kop

To Liverpool will dig an eight metre hollow into the park near Arkles Lane and Priory Road, so the height of the stadium does not cause controversy or breach current planning laws.

That means the pitch and many of the seats on its front rows will be below ground level.

There will also be a car park and below the stadium there will be house presidential style secure bunker suites among a range of top-class corporate facilities, with glass fronts to meeting rooms and suites which will look out over Stanley Park.

Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry said: “It was always the aim of the club, with the backing of Tom Hicks and George Gillett, to be world class on and off the pitch.

“When they took over, the first thing they wanted to do was review the stadium in terms of design and capacity.

“This is the immensely impressive result of their deliberations.”

The revised plan has been produced by leading world architects Dallas-based HKS, following the American takeover by Tom Hicks and George Gillett.

The club also intends establishing a joint venture company with Liverpool council to manage Stanley Park, improving its historic facilities, including a major restoration of Gladstone Pavilion.

Liverpool will create an Anfield Plaza on the site of the current ground, and will soon consider what to do with artefacts including the Hillsborough Memorial, the Bill Shankly Statue and the Shankly and Paisley Gates.

It is also expected that Liverpool will look into re-opening the Bootle branch line to provide rail access to the stadium, a fact revealed by the Daily Post last week.

Parry said: “We make no secret of the fact that we want a greater capacity and will consider putting in a second planning application when appropriate.

“However, we fully recognise for this to happen that all the associated transport requirements need to be in place.

“To increase the capacity above 60,000 we need a further step change in our approach which is why we, together with Liverpool city council and Merseytravel, are investigating the possibility of reopening the Bootle branch railway line for passenger use.

“That would be a fantastic solution, not just for the club, but for all the people of north Liverpool.”

The Reds’ new ground will also incorporate dedicated facilities for the Anfield Sport and Community Centre and Liverpool Hope University, and external facilities will include tennis courts and new multi-use games area.

The stadium will have a stone- work base on the north, west and east sides with mainly glass facades above. The south side will be clad in metal and overlook the Plaza.

One striking feature will see the south east and south west corners of the stadium visually open, providing views from the park deep into its heart.

Auxerre 0 – 2 Liverpool

So another win for Liverpool and more importantly a win for me :o )

Goals in each half from Gerrard and Agger ensured Liverpool kept up their 100% record for pre-season.

Once Liverpool scored the second goal I traded out of the bet laying Liverpool to win at 1.01, securing £18.30 winnings.

NEXT!………….

First Bet

OK, that didn’t take long, first bet……

Laying the draw in the Auxerre v Liverpool game at odds of 4.2 for £20, that’s a liability of £64.

Mainly because Liverpool have been scoring goals so I think there will be an opportunity to trade in this game, just watch it be 0-0 now!

20th July

Werder Bremen 2-3 Liverpool

So the reds completed their third victory of pre-season with their first game in Switzerland, Andriy Voronin bagged himself 2 goals with John Arne Riise getting the other.

Voronin is already looking a better buy than Schevcheklo was and was free, it’s only pre-season but it looks like the strikers are going to be battling amongst themselves to get in the side this season.

Fernando Torres, Ryan Babel and Yossi Benayoun also made their debuts for Liverpool, the attacking options are now looking good and i’m getting excited about the new season already.

I signed up with Setanta Sports package at £9.99 a month with no annual contract, they are showing quite a few pre-season games and also 46 Premiership games along with 60 Scottish Premier League games, Liverpool are also launching a TV channel on Setanta

At 2pm today Liverpool face Auxerre in their final game in Switzerland before jetting off to Hong Kong.

I still haven’t had a bet but I am getting itchy feet, I think I might start to have a few little bets to keep me entertained soon, I will post them here when I do, I mean ‘if’ ;o)

Samba Kings win again

So Brazil turned on the style and beat Argentina conincingly 3-0 in the Copa America Final, Argentina had been the form team of the Tournament but you can never write off Brazil, even without Ronaldinho and Kaka, although I don’t think Ronaldinho has been on top form over the last season, so any club contemplating paying £60m for him must be mad!!

I didn’t have a bet on the game although I was tempted to lay the draw, hindsight is a wonderful thing!

15th July

Crewe 0 – 3 Liverpool

Liverpool won their second pre-season game yesterday against Crewe with the goals coming from Lee Peltier, Peter Crouch and Ray Putterill.

Liverpool dominated throughout as you’d expect, Rafa played two different teams in each half with Ukrainian striker Andriy Vorinin impressing in the first half.

Liverpool now travel to Switzerland for some more warm-up games against Werder Bremen and Auxerre who will provide more of a test for Rafa’s new look squad.

As you can see i’ll probably be posting about Liverpool and other general football stories :o )

Pre-season betting

I don’t think i’ll be betting on any of the pre-season games, they are all a bit unpredictable, I might take a look at some of the tournaments that will be taking place, like the Amsterdam Tournament and the Rotterdam Tournament as they are normally a bit more competitive.

I will actually be off to watch Liverpool in the Rotterdam Tournament, the games are played on the 3rd & 5th August and will be my first chance to, hopefully, see the new boys in action.
